In an effort to fight crime and eradicate the dealing and abuse of drugs in the community, the police in Prieska confiscated Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R36 000 on Friday night (23/03).

No arrests have yet been made in connection with the findings, as no one claimed the backpack that contained the drugs.

According to Lt Col Di­makatso Mooi, the police reacted swiftly and intercepted the identified taxi at approximately 21:45 on Friday.

“Upon searching the taxi, 450 Mandrax tablets were found wrapped in a bath towel,” Mooi said.

“It is alleged that no one in the taxi had any know­ledge of the drugs or the backpack, and an enquiry was opened.”

The community is applauded for working toge­ther with the police and is encouraged to continue reporting any criminal activities to their nearest police station on the Crime Stop line 08600-10111.
