The Bloemfontein police are investigating a case of murder following the death of a male initiate on Christmas day.

Brig. Motantsi Makhele, provincial police spokesperson, said on-duty police who attended to the case, found Makume Zachariah Molise (32) already dead at an initiation school which was set up near Lourierpark, a suburb in Bloemfontein.

He is believed to have resided in Phase 10, a new underdeveloped settlement in the Mangaung Metro Municipality.

“The police found the initiate already dead on arrival. He had bruises on his body,” said Makhele.

He said feedback received from the initiation school states that Molise allegedly attempted to run away from the school in the early hours of the day in question.

Makhele said the deceased was allegedly hallucinating in the early hours of 25 December when he tried to run away.

He said the initiation school teacher and other initiates chased and caught Molise.

Makhele said the teacher alleged that Molise appeared hysterical and that they tried to calm him down.

“They said after some time the victim looked calm and tired, only to discover that he was dead.”

Makhele said further investigation would determine the cause of death and strengthen attempts to bring the culprits to book.
