WINTER in the Free State means it is time for Quilt in Clarens. The annual festival has grown from childhood to adulthood.
It is the only annual quilt festival in the Free State and has grown over the last ten years from seven to 330 participants.
The 11th festival is from 28 June to 2 July at the Clarens Primary School. Quilting groups are welcome to visit during the day and to support the suppliers. The festival offers quilting, knitting, Tunisian knitting, art, spinning of wool, weaving and crocheting.
This year there will be eight classes every day. The classes are small and students get lots of personal attention.
It is the ideal getaway for beginner quilters and those that want to quilt in a relaxed environment. Bobbin lace, needle lace, stained glass, weaving and spinning have been added to this year’s programme.
The teachers are Marie Strydom (quilting), Liezel van Aswegen (quilting), Louria Blignaut (crochet and Tunisian knitting), Dana Biddle (creative knitting and quilting), Marile Bruyns (quilting), Yolunde Mare (quilting), Marlene Willemse (lead glass) and Glennis Brooke (spinning and weaving).
