Race kickstarts running season

2018-01-31 06:00

Runners taking part in this year’s Kloppers Marathon stand a chance to win exciting prizes.

These include a three-month subscription to Volksblad, a co-sponsor of the event, and free advertising space worth R4 842,72 in Bloem News.

Cash prizes and medals are also on offer.

This year the marathon will reach its milestone of 28 years.

The marathon promises to propel competitors in the main race (42,2 km) to greater heights, as it serves as the qualifier for both the Two Oceans and the Comrades Marathon to be held later this year.

Prize money and gold medals will be offered for official category winners in the 42,2 km, 21,1 km and 10 km races respectively.

The Kloppers Marathon is traditionally held to kick-start the local road race programme.

This year’s race is set to take place in Bloemfontein on 10 February, with the Achilles Sports Centre as the starting and finishing point.

The Kloppers Marathon also includes a 21,1 km race, 10 km race and 5 km fun run.

Entry fees for the various races are as follows:

  • R120 for the 42,2 km;
  • R100 for the 21,1 km;
  • R80 for the 10 km; and
  • R40 for the 5 km fun run.

Only athletes with a permanent 2018 Athletics South Africa number will be allowed to participate in the main race.

A temporary licence number costs R50 for the 21,1 km and 10 km race respectively.

Athletes completing the races in the given cut-off times will receive medals on the day.

Online registrations opened on Saturday, 20 January and will close on Tuesday, 6 February.

Athletes can visit www.bfnachilles.co.za for online entries.
