Raise a cuppa for cancer

2016-06-15 06:00

THE Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa), with supporting sponsors Shoprite Checkers and Glen Rooibos, are challenging the public to support the Cuppa for Cansa nationwide fundraising campaign.

The 2016 Cuppa for Cansa was officially launched on Wednesday, 8 June.

The Free State launch was held in Bloemfontein.

This fundraising and educational campaign about cancer is held annually from June until 31 October.

Derek Foster, Cansa’s national chairperson of the board, has appealed to the public to contribute towards the success of the fundraising campaign.

The Cuppa for Cansa awareness campaign allows the public to play their part in the care and support that Cansa delivers to those affected by cancer.

Contributions by the public, non-profit organisations, public and corporate entities can be done by hosting a Cuppa creative event. There are different ways to host such an event.

Invite a Cuppa guest or become a Cuppa host, inviting friends, family and colleagues, as well as corporate entities.

Although tea parties are common to support Cuppa for Cansa, it need not be tea – any beverage, hot or cold, will do!

Use your creativity with your Cuppa.

Host a Women’s Day Cuppa, a Birthday Cuppa or an Extreme Cuppa.

Invite a speaker or a cancer survivor if you like. Choose a theme and the message you wish to share and then serve snacks to suit your theme.

Proceeds from the 2016 Cuppa for Cansa campaign are aimed at keeping Cansa’s nine mobile health clinics on the road.

The mobile clinics travel to remote areas throughout South Africa to make people aware of the benefit of early detection and to provide cancer education and screening.

Shoppers at Shoprite Checkers supported in-store Cuppa events last year and helped to raise over R1 million for Cansa’s care and support programmes.
