Rape victim gets justice

2016-12-14 06:01

A mentally disturbed wo-man who was repeatedly raped by three young men in November 2014 has finally received justice with the sentencing of the accused.

The Botshabelo Regional Court sentenced Thami Mbelekane (20), Sechaba Masilo (20) and Mpho Ramosebi (19) to 12 years imprisonment each.

They were found guilty for raping the victim, taking turns.

The victim was raped in an abandoned shack in Section L, Botshabelo, at about 18:00.

She was 21 years old at the time of the incident, while the perpetrators were underaged.

Sgt Martin Xuma, Botshabelo police cluster spokesperson, said that an informant, believed to be an acquaintance of one of the rapists, told his mother about the incident.

He said an investigation led to the arrest of the three, who had been on trial until their conviction and sentencing earlier this month.

Const. Manyatso Rakaku of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit investigated the crime.
