Register children for 2017 now

2016-05-18 06:00

PARENTS are encouraged to register their schoolgoing children for 2017 in the period 20 to 24 June.

Free State MEC for Education, Tate Makgoe, said following the closure of this application period, parents were advised to return the completed application forms in September.

In a statement, Makgoe said the reason for early applications was to avoid the disappointment of late registration, overcrowding and long queues.

“Schools are required to distribute application forms before the application period and allow parents time to study and complete the application forms before submission,” Makgoe said.

The required documents for registration are: original or copy of birth certificates, proof of pa-rents’ identity and citizenship, proof of child’s residence or parents’ work address, supporting documents if under guardianship, immunisation card (for primary school learners), a recent school report if the child is enrolled at another school, and proof of sibling relationship.

If parents do not have all the required documents, the child will be conditionally registered for three months only.

Parents are encouraged to apply at nearby schools or closer to their work.

The admission age for gr. R or gr. 1 is:

    • Gr. R: age four turning five by 30 June in the year of admission (2017).
    • Gr. 1: age five turning six by 30 June in the year of admission (2017).
