EMPLOYERS can submit employee earnings reports to the workmen’s compensation commissioner online.

The Department of Labour now has a website on which employers can record their reports of employees’ earnings according to the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (Coida).

As soon as the information has been entered on the website, the amount payable is calculated automatically and the account is sent via email to the employer.

The online process makes it easier for employers to access a Letter of Good Standing (Logs). This can be requested via fax or email. The office still addresses enquiries regarding the assessment of injury claims that need to be resolved, and putting installment payment plans in place.

All employers and employment brokers are expected to submit their reports, as required by law. The aim is to accommodate compensation in the case of disability due to occupational injury and disease and to prevent employees from claiming against employers for injury on duty.

The only employers acquitted of contributions is national and provincial government departments, certain local government institutions and employers who are registered with the various unions, the Federated Employers’ Mutual Assurance (Fema) for the building industry and the Rand Mutual Assurance Company (RMA) for the mining industry.

Employers can register with the workmen’s compensation commissioner at The call centre’s number is 086-010-5350. Mail enquiries to
