A would-be armed robber, Tumelo Ramosie (28), is expected to reappear in the Thaba Nchu Magistrate’s Court in July.

Ramosie was caught during a foiled armed robbery of a supermarket in Thaba Nchu and is now facing the might of the law while the search continues for his accomplice.

He first appeared in court on 20 June, facing a charge of armed business robbery.

Ramosie was arrested during the botched armed robbery which happened at about 16:15 on the day in June.

Sgt Martin Xuma, spokesperson of the Thaba Nchu police cluster, said Ramosie was positively identified as one of the two armed robbers who attempted to rob a local supermarket.

He said the second suspect managed to escape. Xuma said the suspect on the run is believed to be armed.

According to Xuma, on-duty police members reacted promptly before the two robbers were able to flee with the loot.

“The two robbers were still inside the supermarket when the police arrived.

“When the robbers realised they were cornered, one of them abandoned the money in the supermarket.

“Ramosie was apprehended when he tried to flee.

“The other suspect believed to have had a firearm, escaped, posing as one of the customers,” Xuma said.

During the robbery, the main door of the supermarket was opened to let customers out.

“Customers ran in different directions, fearing for their lives, and it is suspected that the other robber escaped in the event.

“Money that was abandoned was handed back to the supermarket owner,” said Xuma.
