The Breast Cancer Awareness Fun Run was held in Parys on 29 October and women of all walks of life participated.

The key message of the day was that cancer is one of the most serious diseases that people face and that breast cancer is very common amongst women.

The fun run took place at the Letoba Multipurpose Stadium and was organised by Matsheole Salmina.

During the event, women were urged to keep themselves educated in an effort to be able to identify early warning signs of cancer and to know how to reduce their risk for breast cancer.

“It is important for women to know what is normal for their bodies and to be aware of symptoms of cancer, as early detection improves treatment outcomes,” Salmina said.

The South African Breweries Central Region (SAB) came on board after seeing the importance of being involved with the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.

Highlighting the importance of cancer screening, Leon Troskie, district manager of the South African Breweries Central Region, said: “We understand the detrimental effects of cancer in our communities and believe that screening is very important – not only for early detection, but also for educating the communities on early warning signs.”
