ALL roads lead to Pietermaritzburg and Durban, as scores of runners flock to these two cities for this year’s Comrades Marathon on Sunday, (29/05).

This year, the marathon is downhill, with the runners starting the quest to win the demanding race from KwaZulu-Natal’s capital city of Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

Over 20 000 entries have reportedly been received for the 2016 Comrades Marathon.

This year, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has confirmed that it is holding charitable fundraising for its six official Comrades charities.

Chris Fisher, CMA general manager, said the generosity and spirit of the runners had contributed over R2 million to the marathon’s charity coffers.

She said this year, over 5 000 runners had already made voluntary donations in conjunction with their race entries, through which nearly R400 000 had already been contributed.
