The soccer team of the South African Police Services (SAPS) emerged victorious, scooping gold, during the Golden Games hosted at the Galeshewe Stadium on Sunday, 8 July.

The tournament was hosted by the Sol Plaatje Masters League in conjunction with the Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and the Sol Plaatje Municipality.

The annual Golden Games are dedicated to the centenary celebrations of former Pres. Nelson Mandela and the struggle activist Albertina Sisulu in order to bring the football fraternity closer together.

Equally participating in the tournament were two teams of the Masters League, the Sundowns Supporters Club, Pirates Supporters Club, Chiefs Supporters Club and the Sol Plaatje Municipality Masters Club.

The SAPS team was awarded the winning trophy at a banquet to honour football legends and administrators.

The banquet took place on Saturday (14/07) at the Mayibuye Indoor Sport Centre.

The presentation of a trophy and 20 gold medals was made to the team manager, Abram Tsoone, on behalf of the team.
