Schools can register for tournament

2019-02-13 06:01

Primary schools in the Free State are now invited to register to compete in the 2019 Danone Nations Cup.

Schools with u.12 boys’ soccer teams are encouraged to enter the competition before the closing date of 28 February.

This competition is globally regarded as one of the biggest developmental tournaments.

This year marks the 20th time the tournament is presented.

It is run under the auspices of the South African Schools Football Association (Sasfa), collating registration forms, finalising dates and fixtures and managing games across the country.

The competition’s cluster level will start in March, culminating in the national final to be held, at a venue still to be confirmed, in June or July.

The world finals are expected to take place in October and will include the winners of 19 countries, including South Africa.

After beating the Katiso Primary School by 3 – 2 (via penalties) last year, the Tshediso Xolani Primary School in Tweeling reigned as the Free State champion.

The provincial winner will start the defense of the title.

Schools interested in participating in the competition can register by sending an email to Sasfa’s national coordinator, Themba Tshabalala, on thembatshabalala@saschoolsfa.co.za, or by dialling 011-403-2844, 084-290-0602 or 072-588-4957.

  • Alternatively, they can visit the Danone Nations Cup South Africa Facebook page or go to www.facebook.com/dncsouthafrica to download the necessary documents.
