The Northern Cape Department of Education said schools will start informing parents from Monday (10/09) whether their applications for 2019 admission have been successful. Parents must accept or decline within seven days.According to the department, 12 912 English medium applications from Gr. R to Gr. 12, and 8 743 Afrikaans medium applications have been captured by 27 August. For Gr. R overall, 2 983 applications were received for English classes and 3 066 for Afrikaans. According to the head of communications for the Department of Education, Lehuma Ntuane, 1 597 applications were received by the department for Gr. 1 English classes and 1 495 for Afrikaans.“Altogether 4 752 Gr. 8 applications were for English, and 2 347 for Afrikaans applications; including 1 170 Gr. 10 English applications and 393 Afrikaans applications,” said Ntuane. He said a learner who has been refused admission to a public school may appeal to the MEC for Education within seven days from receiving notification. “The appeal must be lodged directly with the office of the MEC on form NCK-A5, accompanied by the declination letter from the school, the sequence number, date and time that the application was submitted to the school,” the department stated.
