2017-04-12 06:01

The World of Champions’ search for six new rugby commentators came down to 12 finalists on Saturday evening(08/04) .

These 12 were selected from a group of 44 who had progressed to the final auditions in Sandton City after having been selected at the regional auditions held in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg.

Making up the top 12 are:

Xhosa category: Luthabo Kamai (Cape Town), Sebenzile Tyetyana (Port Elizabeth), Tyhila Phahlane and Masomelele Jucwa (both from Johannesburg);

Afrikaans category: Johan Thormahlen (Bloemfontein), Stephen Nel (Johannesburg), John Nelson (Port Elizabeth) and Marco Botha (Cape Town); and

English category: Paul Stubbs (Cape Town), Chris Fletcher, Anton Taylor and Matthew Pugin (all from Johannesburg).

The top 12 will go to a two-week commentator’s “boot-camp”, which will be made up of training and commentating stints during the Easter weekend festivals.

They will all get an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the SuperSport Rugby Challenge, taking turns in commentating on all round-robin matches of the inaugural tournament.

The top six (two Xhosa, two Afrikaans and two English), who will be the ultimate winners, will be announced at the start of the knockout stage of the tournament.
