Mooketsi Chevron Bambiso (31) was sentenced to a double-life sentence for the rape of a 43-year-old mentally-ill woman.

The sentences will run concurrently.

  • The South African Police Service (SAPS) welcomes the rape sentencing that was handed down to this Warrenton man in the Hartswater Regional Court on .

According to Capt. Sergio Kock, the incident dates back to 6 April 2008 at about 15:45, when the suspect dragged the victim into the veld and raped her at knifepoint.

The victim had reportedly been on her way home when she was accosted by the accused.

“The police searched for the accused and traced him by means of his DNA and the modus operandi he utilised.

“Bambiso was traced to prison, where he was serving a 15-year sentence for two other separate rape cases he also committed between 2007 and 2009,” added Kock.

“The rape of the mentally-ill victim is the third rape he has committed. The accused was classified as a serial rapist by the Regional Court in Harts-water.”

The Frances Baard SAPS cluster commander, Maj.Gen. Jean Abrahams, lauded Det.Sgt Tanya Fourie of the Hartswater Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for a job well done.

“It is with pride that we see our members working extremely hard to remove criminals from our streets.

“The convictions result in justice for the victims concerned and the community feels safer when the perpetrators are incarcerated.

“It also sends out a stern message that when you do crime, you will do the time.”
