“People are becoming increasingly health-conscious,” says Van Zyl. Over the past year, we have seen that Bloemfonteiners want to work out together have a need to work together in a safe environment outdoors

“This is a fun way to exercise, and it happens early enough so it doesn’t interfere with your weekend.”

Most of the races take place on Saturday mornings.

To cater to people of all fitness levels, there is usually a shorter race ranging from 4 km to 6 km, and a longer distance of 8 km to 12 km.

Most events also have a 1 km race for children.

Although the events have only taken place in Bloemfontein thus far, races are also being planned for Bethlehem and Welkom.

The first race of the year is scheduled to take place at Naval Hill which the Volksblad will co-host this year with TrailrunSeries, will take place today (05/02).

Registration can be done online at trailrunSeries.co.za, or on the day of the event.
