Show promises feast for Afro-jazz lovers

Afro-jaz­z music lovers will be in for a real treat when talented Andile Qongqo, an Afro-jazz pianist, performs live to offer home-brewed sounds in the Odeion Hall at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein.

The two-day show opens on Monday (01/07) and ends on Tuesday (02/07).

Qongqo is an Afro-jazz pianist, composer, recording artist and music educator from Bloemfontein.

He has been a music instructor at the Free State Musicon, Bloemfontein, since 2004, teaching piano, keyboards and music theory. He has a Licentiate Diploma (LTCL) in Jazz Piano from Trinity College, London.

Qongqo’s involvement in music includes working as a concert producer, producing the Jazz Lounge for the Vryfees in 2014, and co-producing Jazz Evenings since 2015.

In 2018 he released his debut album titled Q Signature (piano solo).

The talented performer is expected to sing some of the melodious songs from his maiden album in his performance next week.

He did a solo piano performance at Gluwhein & Jazz with guest artist Nduduzo Makhathini at the Windmill Casino in Bloemfontein in 2018.

The same year, he was pianist for the renowned bassist and composer Mlungisi Gegana’s Trio live at Jazz on the Lawn and he also performed with Andile Q Trio at the Jazz on the Lawn, a mini festival organised by the Windmill Casino.

In 2017 Qongqo, was pianist for American recording artist, bassist and composer Tom Knific at the University of the Free State. In 2016 he was a music director and composer for Sophiatown the Musical.

Entry is R100 per show.
