Sibanda teams up with Celtic

BLOEMFONTEIN CELTIC have promoted defender Nicholas Sibanda to their first team in the wake of Bevan Fransman’s departure from the club.

Towering defender Fransman left Phunya Sele Sele to join Maritzburg United after deciding against extending his stay at the club he had joined from SuperSport United in 2014.

Celtic have offered 22-year-old Sibanda a three-year contract and according to the club’s media officer, Sello Nduna, the young defender will surprise people.

“He plays as a centre-back as well as in central midfield. The intention with our youth structure is to make sure that every year we promote two or three players to the senior team. With Fransman no longer with us, we need to fill the key positions,” said Nduna.

“Obviously he’s coming from development so it might take him a while to break into the first team.

“You’ll see him. He is in the mould of Hlompho Kekana in terms of how he is built. I don’t like to sell my players, but watch the space,” a confident Nduna said.

The Mangaung giants’ enlistment of Sibanda increases to eight the number of newly-recruited players with which the club is hoping to rekindle the ambitions to challenge for trophies.

Celtic unveiled their new soldiers at the club’s general meeting held on Saturday, 2 July, in Bloemfontein.

They are Cheslyn Jampies, Dean Hotto (Namibia), Atusaye Nyondo (Malawi), Mpho Maruping, Sibusiso Mxoyana, Tlou Molekwane and Khethokwakhe Masuku.
