Solinas to take charge again

2016-10-05 06:00

BETHLEHEM. – Free State Stars have confirmed coach Giovanni Solinas has returned to take charge of the club following the sacking of Denis Lavagne.

Lavagne was fired by the Bethlehem-based outfit following poor results after just three league games.

Solinas guided Ea Lla Koto to a 12th place finish in the league in 2015-’16 before quitting the club for personal reasons.

Stars general manager Ranti Mokoena is confident the Italian can impress in his second season.

“We as a club are delighted to reunite with Giovanni Solinas,” said Mokoena.

“He is one of those coaches respected by the football fraternity for his good brand of football. Solinas was an automatic preference after we parted ways with Lavagne, as our players understand his football philosophy.

“With the two-week break before our next match, it will give him ample time to build up a strong team that will at least start winning matches, starting with the next match against Maritzburg United.

“We are happy that his family matters are resolved and he will start his duties immediately following the contract termination of Frenchman Denis Lavagne.

“Themba Sithole, who was in charge of the last two matches, will return to his duties at the development team.”
