LOCAL solo gospel artist Sipho Thola has debuted in the gospel music industry with a 12-track album titled Ngizolibonga.

He says in the title track he praises and thanks God for guiding him through challenges, as well as success, to complete the production of the album.

“I’m grateful to God for what He has done for me and is still doing. I had difficult times and I never thought I would make it, but God guided me. Singing gospel is a fitting thankyou stet to God,” says Sipho.

Born in Botshabelo, Sipho says what makes the album profound is the inclusion of renowned hymns of which the originality is retained.

“These hymns are special, because they have been instrumental in spiritual upliftment. Many people know and still love these hymns. The decision to retain originality was due to their significance and simplicity in having people understand their message.”

One of the songs is Hotla Loka, which he composed and co-wrote with Past. Albert Makhetha.

Sipho worked with back-up vocalist Manana Malete and local gospel act Mike Bakamela on the album, which he plans to officially launch in Bloemfontein in December.

Sipho’s love for gospel resonates from his upbringing in a Christian family and his life revolving around the church.

“The influence of gospel comes from my father, Past. Meshcak Thola, and mother, Emily, who are members of the City of Life Church.

“I have been doing gospel music from a very young age and it remains a part of me.”

Sipho is a member of the Rock of Victory Church in Thaba Nchu.

He says a promising career to establish himself as a solo artist began while he was singing with a group, True Worshipers, in Botshabelo over a number of years.

He has shared the stage with established acts that include Past. Benjamin Dube, Kgotso Makhalema, Kgosi, Keke Phofolo and Teboho Moloi.
