The stakes of this year’s Lemo Mall High Schools Football Tournament with big prize monies on offer are higher than ever with the sponsorship increasing from R35 000 to R60 000 in the 2019. This year, the sponsorship is raised to R60 000, a considerable increase on the R35 000 offered in 2017 and 2018.

Last year, the sponsor and director of the Kenworth Group, Freddy Kenney, made a commitment to increase the sponsorship by approximately 50%, citing the steady growth of the competition.

The overall winner is guaranteed R30 000, while the runner-up will receive R20 000 and the third place will get R10 000.

According to the respective positions they attain, the top-placing teams will also receive sporting attire and medals. The champions will get a floating trophy.

This football development competition, in its third edition, is a partnership between the sponsor and the Free State Department of Education.

This will be the third edition of this yearly tournament.

While plans are being made to extend the competition to schools in Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu in the future, 32 schools in the greater Bloemfontein area compete for the title.

HTS Louis Botha won both the 2017 and 2018 editions. Now, having reached the quarterfinals, the school will be looking to extend its winning record to three this year.

The other schools that managed to reach the quarterfinals are Grey College, St Bernard’s, Lekhulong, Hodisa, Navalsig, Accelerated Christian College and Tsoseletso.

The games are set to be played at Grey College on 30 August.

Navalsig finished as the runner-up in the 2017 final.
