Big-time effort, mixed in with some powerful displays on the field, highlighted the two days of the inaugural Lieutenant General Moadira Top 8 Tournament.

The competition saw 16 clubs, which include junior and senior players, competing. The event was staged at the Mangaung Outdoor Centre in Bloemfontein and it ended on a high note on Sunday (03/06).

The football fraternity gathered at the venue to honour one of their own, footballer and freedom fighter Morris “Trinity” Moadira.

Dikoena Stars of Bochabela scooped the prize in the junior section for the u.17’s.

The victorious team was made to sweat by favourites, Super Eagles, in the final. The champions won 5 – 4 on penalties after the two clubs had failed to produce a winner in regulation time.

Stars, campaigning in the Safa Mangaung IBL League, received a full set of jerseys, gold medals and a trophy for their efforts.

The South African National Defence Force’s (SANDF) A team, was crowned the overall champion in the senior category after a narrow 1 – 0 win over their fellow team from the army. The winning team scooped the trophy plus gold medals.

In the development category for u.15 teams, Eagles United proved too strong, as they took the first prize of jerseys plus gold medals following a 2 – 0 win over Dikoena Stars, who received silver medals.

The tournament is presented as a partnership between the Lieutenant General Moadira Foundation, the SANDF and the Safa Mangaung Local Football Association.
