Stats survey underway

2016-03-09 06:00

STATISTICS SOUTH AFRICA (SSA) is conducting the country’s second community survey, from 7 March to 8 April. The enumerators will go to selected households, spending about 40 minutes per household, asking a few questions contained in the survey’s once-off questionaire.

Information will be collected digitally for faster results. The survey will provide better understanding of the country and information needed to make decisions.

Altogether 194 fieldworkers will conduct the survey at 22 989 households in the Eastern Free State.

A community survey is not a census and will not count everyone in the country. It is a large sample survey which will cover only selected households. It will produce information at municipal level required for planning and decision making at all levels of government.

Households visited will be required to answer questions pertaining to their households, employment, education, services, housing and household goods.

Fieldworkers have a legal obligation to keep collected information confidential and may not discuss this information with any unauthorised persons. SSA therefore wants to confirm that once your information is captured, no one will be able to see where the information came from. Fieldworkers can be identified through ID cards, which include a hologram image to verify authenticity.

They will also wear a yellow bib. Vehicles used to visit farms for the survey will also have an SSA logo on the side to identify it.
