Stepdad jailed

A man has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for repeatedly raping his ten-year-old stepdaughter between 2014 and 2015.

The sentence was passed by the Groblershoop Regional Court on Friday (09/11).

The man’s conviction followed his arrest in 2015 after the girl had reported the matter to her granny, as she could not relay the matter to her biological mother.

Capt. Olebogeng Tawana, police spokesperson, said Detective Sgt Lucky Malepe, investigating officer, had worked tirelessly to link the accused with the case. Forensic investigation also assisted in ensuring that the stepfather was convicted and sentenced.

Lt Gen Risimati Shivuri, Northern Cape police commissioner, applauded the national prosecuting authority for ensuring a jail term for the perpetrator.

“The rule of the law should instil the common sense of morality back into society, so that women and children shall live without fear of being raped and abused,” said Shivuri.
