Submit applications now

THE National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has called on gr. 12 learners and students wishing to apply for financial assistance to study at public universities and Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges next year, to submit their applications.

The application process is currently open and will close on 30 November.

“We request applicants to provide us with supporting documents, full and accurate information to avoid rejection of applications,” said Kagisho Mamabolo, NSFAS spokesperson.

“We hope the new funding model will change their lives for the better by creating an effective and efficient access to higher education,” he added.

Online applications are only limited to students applying to study at institutions such as the Durban University of Technology, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, University of Venda, Sol Plaatje University, University of Mpumalanga, King Hintsa TVET College, Motheo TVET College, Umfolozi TVET College, South Cape TVET College and Ekhurhuleni East College.

Applications for financial assistance are only open to learners or students from poor and working class families who cannot afford to pay for their studies.

“This may include eligible students who were not funded by the NSFAS in the 2015 academic year and those who were not funded in the previous years,” said Mamabolo.

The scheme opened online applications at the beginning of August to give applicants adequate time to submit their applications early.

This period allows the NSFAS to directly receive applications, process them and award funding to eligible students using the new funding model.

The scheme said it had received more than 30 582 online applications since the beginning of the application period and a significant number of applications have been processed thus far.

All applicants will receive communication via SMS or email as soon as 2015 matric results are released.

Applicants can also contact the NSFAS directly through the contact centre on 086-006-7327 or for further assistance.
