Sundowns want to win it all

PRETORIA. Z Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane, says the Brazilians are not ready to replicate Orlando Pirates and win a treble.

Sundowns were in the running for a domestic treble but were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by the Buccaneers.

The log leaders have already won the Telkom Knockout this season and are in pole position to win the league for the second time in three seasons, and seventh time in total.

“We have stretched our team and it’s also important for me to see what we have. Can this team go for a treble? No. It showed this team can’t go for the treble, that’s why we lost against Pirates,”says Mosimane

It has been a tough couple of weeks for the Brazilians, who played out a goalless draw against Ajax Cape Town on Wednesday night (27/04).

The side from Tshwane have played in three competitions in the past seven days. First they faced AS Vita in the CAF Champions League, then played Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup before playing against Ajax in the league.

“The challenge with Sundowns, you’ve got to understand, is Sundowns. It’s tough at Sundowns. You have to play for everything. I would have loved to say I don’t take these games and focus on this one,” he said.

“But we are an ambitious team and we can say we go for everything and lose everything.”

The former Bafana Bafana coach says the team simply can not afford to put all its eggs in one basket and lose it all.

Jingles also emphasises the pressure on winning everything with Sundowns and says it is not an easy task to accomplish.

“You can say I’m targeting that and putting all my eggs in one basket, but what if the basket falls?

“You go home with nothing and it’s Sundowns. You can hear the supporters want to win everything.

“So it’s a difficult position because we are stretching the team a lot.

“We went for the CAF, the league and we have gone for the Nedbank Cup. You must also understand we played maximum games in November and December for the Telkom Cup and we won it.” –
