Monica Nappie, a local businesswoman from Tsantsabane, realised very early in her entrepreneurial journey that a contract to supply goods is worth very little if one does not have the wheels to get the business moving.

She established Khaya Mnandi in 2014 to supply perishable goods to feeding schemes and caterers.

When she started providing goods to the Kolomela mine, she needed a larger vehicle to help her stock up efficiently.

Anglo American’s Zimele initiative intervened by advising Nappie to buy a bigger vehicle and to do single trips instead of doing two to fill an order.

The initiative is reported to have helped her get a much better interest rate, which reduced the repayments.

Nappie is quoted in a statement of Anglo American, applauding the Kolomela Small Business Development Centre for enabling her to grow her business as a small local business.

“This is making me feel very emotional and proud,” she said.
