The woman arrested for allegedly murdering Mpho Sehloho (5) in Botshabelo remains in custody while the police continue with further investigation.

The suspect, Joyce Sehloho (18), briefly appeared in the Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court on Monday (22/01) on a charge of murder following her arrest after the murder of the little boy.

Martin Xuma, spokesperson of the Botshabelo police cluster, says the suspect is to appear in court on Monday (29/01) to apply for bail. He says the suspect was arrested in Wepener the day after the boy’s body was found. He says the suspect reportedly left for Wepener on Thursday.

The child’s body, with a stab wound, was found in a refuse bag near a fence in F Section in Botshabelo.

“On the crime scene the police received information about the case and went to a certain house not far from the scene. The police questioned the family of that house and they informed the police that it was an 18-year-old woman.

“Upon searching the house, the police found drops of blood on the floor of the bedroom,” says Xuma.

He says the investigating officer, Det.Sgt Lefa Letlojane, questioned the suspect and searched her bag. Two towels with blood stains were found in her possession.

“She was arrested for the alleged murder of the boy. All evidence has been sent to the forensic laboratory for further investigation and analysis,” says Xuma.
