THE 20-man squad for South Africa at the 2016 Cosafa Castle Cup, taking place in Namibia from 11 to 25 June, has been revealed by

This gives a glimpse into the thinking of Owen da Gama ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The side that heads to Namibia in June for the regional championship will be coached by the senior national team’s boss, Shakes Mashaba.

Da Gama, his assistant, will coach the Olympic side.

The team is made up almost exclusively of players 23 years of age, or under, with the core of this team likely to head to the Olympics.

Included is Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker, Keagan Dolly, along with the Ajax Cape Town trio of defenders, Rivaldo Coetzee and Abbubaker Mobara, and goalkeeper Jody February.

Vying with February for the gloves is departing Kaizer Chiefs keeper, Reyaad Pieterse, and Nkosingiphile Gumede of Lamontville Golden Arrows.

Leading the forward line is Baroka FC striker Thabiso Kutumela, who scored 18 goals in the National First Division last season.

Included here are Mpumalanga Black Aces’ Judas Moseamedi and France-based Lebo Mothiba, who plays for Lille in Ligue 1.

The only other overseas-based player in the selection is Lebogang Phiri, who plays for Brondby in Denmark.

The only slight surprise in the squad is Moroka Swallows’ teenage defender, Repo Malepe.

South Africa will play its first game at the Cosafa Castle Cup on 18 June against the winner of the first round of Group B that includes Angola, Malawi, Mauritius and Lesotho.

They enter the competition at the quarter-final stage.
