Mangaung Unite players have reaped the rewards of a competitive season in the Free State’s ABC Motsepe League.

The club’s management rewarded the performers with awards at a function held at the Windmill Casino in Bloemfontein on Saturday (27/04).

The prize-giving event was a necessary confidence booster ahead of the all-important mission to gain promotion to the National First Division League (NFDL), which is the second highest league to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in the country.

The team still has a tough assignment to compete for promotion to the top-flight league.

The players’ ultimate prize is gaining promotion this time around, having missed out last season.

Saturday’s prize-giving event was a celebration for winning the Free State stream of the ABC Motsepe League for the second time.

Warriors Sinki Leshabane and Dr Moeketsi Mosola won the provincial championship in style – without a defeat, under the guidance of Morena Ramorebodi, head coach, and Walter Khumalo, assistant coach.

In wrapping up the 2018-’19 season on a high note, Mangaung hammered Free State Stars by 3 – 0 in a fixture played at the University of the Free State’s sport complex in Bloemfontein.

The victorious Mangaung players’ celebration started off by lifting the trophy.

It continued with the awarding of the best performers.

The celebratory occasion saw the team’s captain, Bulelani Nikane, and Alfred Mosoeu scooped two awards, respectively.

Nikane walked home with the defender of the season award and the players’ player of the season award.

The latter award was voted for by his teammates while the other was by a technical team and management.

Mosoeu earned his stripes after awarded the accolade of most discipline player and midfielder of the year.

Rising star player Tumelo Sepagela received the rookie of the year accolade, Morake Malefane was awarded the goalkeeper of the season award while goal-getter Theko Thako duly walked away with the top goal scorer.

He got the golden boot prize for scoring 23 goals in all league competitions, his effort of helping Mangaung to win the title and also qualifying for the promotion play-offs.

Joseph Potsane received the special accolade of the chairman’s award which is from the team’s management.
