Learners from across the country battled it out in this year’s Learners with Special Educational Needs Football Tournament, held from 30 September to 4 October at the sports ground of the Diskobolos Military Base in Kimberley.

Teams from Gauteng, Mpumalanga, the Free State, North West and the Northern Cape, as well as two women’s teams, from Mpumalanga and Gauteng, participated.

The Northern Cape team, consisting of learners of the N.J. Heyns School and the Retlameleng School for Child­ren with Disabilities, progressed to the third and fourth-place play-offs, but lost by 1 – 3 against Gauteng.

A team from Mpumalanga won, while a team from North West was second. A team for Gauteng won the women’s tournament.
