The Sadec Aerobics Competition was hosted at the Galeshewe Mayibuye Cultural Centre on Saturday, 24 November.The event, the sixth of its kind, was hosted by the Galeshewe-based Outdoor Full Body Workout Aerobics team under the leadership of founder and instructor, Vuyo Thati.According to him, approximately 300 people from Swaziland, Botswana and Lesotho attended the event, as well as teams from all nine provinces.Teams from Durban scooped most of the awards.Although it has been an annual competition, the next event will only be hosted in Kimberley in 2021 due to lack of funding.According to Thati, the aerobics team was established six years ago. Because membership is free, it created a growing interest among the residents of Kimberley.“The aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle through exercising. It is sad that some members of the community only start paying attention to their health after being diagnosed with a medical condition or referred by a doctor,” Thati said.The team has free use of the Open Air Arena for training. only contribute when there are trips and competitions in terms of traveling costs as the Sol Plaatje municipality availed the training space, at , for free. Thati said the team has partnered with the Northern Cape Aerobics Association to host more events for clubs in Upington, Kuruman, Postmasburg, Kathu, Jan Kempdorp and Warrenton. The Sadec Aerobics Competition is believed to carry the potential to boost the 2019 Back to School charity drive through putting school shoes on the feet of more learners and keeping girls in school. Schools that have benefitted from the event are the Dr EP Lekhela and Vuyolwethu high schools, the Boitumelo Special School, and the Molehabangwe and Tshiamo primary schools. The event was partly sponsored by BBB Mojake Engineering, Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, SANBS, Pick n Pay North Cape Mall.
