ABOUT 3 336 learners who opted to modularize the writing of their National Senior Certificate (NSC, gr. 12) in 2015 are expected to write the NSC examination in June and December.

The learners are to write at their respective schools.

Howard Ndaba, spokesperson for the Free State Department of Education, said candidates were mostly progressed.

“These are learners who were given the opportunity to write only a chosen number of subjects until the completion of their matric qualification,” Ndaba said.

“However, the department’s expectations might not be realised, as learners are not turning out in large numbers to attend the support classes offered to help them with exam preparations.”

He said the department was offering support through the Internet Broadcast Project (IBP), providing study guides (the Mind the gap range) and contact sessions with teachers.

Tate Makgoe, Free State MEC for Education, has encouraged the learners to study and prepare for the exams.

“We do not only encourage learners to just show up and write, but also to produce quality and credible results,” said Makgoe.

He further encouraged parents to support their children who would be writing the exam during June and December, as well as the class of 2016.
