Three arrested after murder

The Welkom police arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of Simphiwe Kubheka (36) who was the general manager at Tshepong Mine.

The arrest of the two suspects, 27 and 35 years old, has increased the number to three after the first suspect was arrested on Friday (29/09).

Brig. Motantsi Makhele, Free State police spokesperson, said the suspects face a charge of murder. He said the two suspects were expected to appear in court today, adding that the first suspect Lehlohonolo Thethe (25) appeared in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Monday (02/10) following his arrest.

Makhele said Kubheka was fatally shot near Tshepong Mine.

“Kubheka left Tshepong Mine in his vehicle when he was shot. He sustained two gunshot wounds, one in the head and one in the right arm. He was declared dead on the scene.”
