  • The Botshabelo Regional Court has sentenced rape accused Tsholofelo Selaledi (32) to four years imprisonment for rape.

He was sentenced on 6 March for raping a 14-year-old girl last year in February.

Selaledi reportedly forced the victim into his car and took her to an abandoned house in Ratau, Thaba Nchu, where he raped her.

Sgt. Martin Xuma, spokesperson for the police cluster, said the investigative officer apprehended the accused in Bloemfontein the day after the rape.

The investigative officer received good information from the public about the whereabouts of the accused, leading to his arrest.

  • Two men who beat a woman to death on 4 August 2012 were each sentenced to eight years in prison.

Thabiso Sebusi and Thabo Rapitsi were sentenced by the Botshabelo Regional Court after being found guilty of murdering Matshediso Mkhondwane.

They brutally beat the victim at a shebeen in Thaba Nchu. Their attack was in retaliation, apparently after the victim stabbed Rapitsi in the arm with a broken beer bottle.

Sgt. Martin Xuma, cluster spokesperson, said Rapitsi apparently snatched the victim’s necklace by force, leading to a confrontation and the stabbing.

“The victim then broke a beer bottle and demanded her necklace from Rapitsi. When he refused to give it back, the deceased stabbed Rapitsi on his right arm with the broken beer bottle,” he said.

Both Rapitsi and Sebusi, who had been drinking, then started beating the victim.

Xuma said Mkhondwane succumbed to her severe injuries and died in the hospital.

He said a murder case was opened for investigation after the deceased’s father reported the incident.
