BETHLEHEM. – The South African Breweries (SAB) league of the South African Football Association SAFA) in the Thabo Mofutsanyana district, kicked off in the Nedbank Cup preliminary on Saturday (24/09). There were few surprises.

The kick-off saw the district Nedbank Cup champions, Mighty Wits, knocked out of the tournament in the first game, while newcomers Diyatalawa FC marched to the semi-finals round of the cup competition.

Wits were beaten 1-0 by United Wanderers in the group C games which were hosted at Petsana Stadium in Reitz.

Wanderers played Zamalek in the final. They pipped Rhino by 1-0, making them an early breakfast.

Zamalek were the winners of the group, beating Wanderers 3-2.

Diyatalawa marched on to the final by defeating league rookies 4-2 after a penalty shootout following a 3-3 draw.

In another group A clash Karolo FC qualified to play in the final after they won 10-9 on penalties against Badoroang FC after a goalless draw. They were however, defeated 2-0 in the final by Eleven Navigators after they knocked out Clarens Galaxy by 3-1.

The last group saw FK FC winning it after they beat Dynamos by 2-0. Both teams advanced to the final after they beat Junior Sport and Ace Mates respectively.

FK won 2-0 on penalties after a 0-0 draw while Dynamos won 3-2 in a five-goals thriller.

The four winners, FK, Zamalek, Diyatalawa and Navigators will now fight it out in a contest to produce the winner of the region.

The draw, date and venue for the games are yet to be confirmed.
