Kimberley was fortunate enough to be among the many cities that for the first time this year participated in the annual Build-It Tournament at the Galeshewe Artificial Turf on Monday, 24 September.

The initiative, according to Les Pillay of the national Build-It office in Gauteng, is aimed to give back to the communities – which are their supporters – in the form of recreational activities.

The tournament saw at least eight u.13 Sol Plaatje Local Football Association (SPLFA) clubs take on each other in different competitions.

Pillay emphasised that the players are seen as future leaders who deserve a chance to showcase their talent and be promoted into leadership if possible.

Prizes in the form of vouchers for building material, soccer kits and bags, and trophies were sponsored.

The Tshwarelela Primary School lifted the winning trophy, received a cheque, and bags with soccer kits.

The Molehabangwe Primary School won the best supporters and banner award.

They made a colourful banner by incorporating the school colours and a message, with the motto of the sponsor and that of their school.

The player of the tournament, Phemelo Segami, received a trophy, and a promise that he will be recommended to Amazulu and the Supersport Football Clubs Academy.
