Trauma its concern

2016-10-12 06:00

THE Trauma Society of South Africa (TSSA) is concerned with the prevention and mitigation of trauma.

The grave concern is due to all forms of mechanical injury (penetrating and blunt) through the propagation of quality treatment and appropriate surgical intervention.

The body attempts to fulfil the objective of the World Health Organisation (WHO) declaration on Emergency Care for the injured in South Africa and provide the standards for accreditation of trauma units according to the nationally agreed criteria.

The TSSA is an affiliate of the South African Medical Association and a component of the Association of Surgeons of South Africa and a sister organisation of the Emergency Medicine Society of South Africa (EMSSA).

The WHO violence and injury prevention programme is actively supported.

The TSSA is also the parent body in South Africa for the Advanced Trauma Life Support Course for Doctors® of the American College of Surgeons, the Definitive Surgical Trauma Care course for senior operating doctors (registrars and surgeons) as well as the Trauma Foundation, the corporate interaction and trauma prevention wing.
