The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation’s Reading Festival takes place at the President Hotel in Bloemfontein.

The event marks National Book Week celebrations.

The programme is in partnership with the South African Book Development Council (SABDC). The chief objective is to promote a culture of reading among young people and the public.

According to reading statistics only 14% of the South African population are active book readers, and a mere 5% of parents read to their children.

Activities include a wordathon and storytelling for Gr. 3 and 4 learners.
