HARRISMITH. – Two people, a man and a woman aged 28 and 40 respectively, were arrested by the Harrismith highway patrol on Saturday (04/06), after they had been found in possession of dagga weighing 15,8 kg, with a value of R15 800.

Sgt Mmako Mophiring, police spokesperson, said members of the Harrismith highway patrol had patrolling on Saturday when they had noticed people with bags standing next to a truck on the N3.

“They stopped and searched the male and found that the sports bag contained dagga. He told the police that they had to wait for a woman who had gone to wihdraw money. After the second suspect was found, the two were arrested and taken to the police station. They were travelling from Escort going to Kimberley.

“The male is 28 years old and the female 40 years old. The suspects had put pieces of pineapple in between the dagga to hide the smell,” he said.

He said they were expected to appear before the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of possession of dagga.
