Two die in fire

2016-09-14 06:00

A BLOEMFONTEIN family has been displaced after fire destroyed their home, killing two members, a 60-year-old person and a three-year-old girl.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Saturday (10/09) around 08:00 at the Unitas Herberg in Loggeman Street, Universitas.

Capt. Chaka Marope, Parkroad Police Cluster spokesperson, said the two victims who were trapped inside the house were burnt beyond recognition.

He said a woman in her 30s survived with severe burn wounds and was admitted to a hospital in Bloemfontein.

He said charred bodies of the two victims were found in the front bedroom of the house. Firefighters in two trucks battled for more than an hour to extinguish the flames.

The neighbours who witnessed the tragic incident were unsuccessful in rescuing the two victims due to smoke and raging flames.

Marope said investigation into the cause of the fire was under way.
