The deputy chairperson of the Motheo TVET College in Bloemfontein, Jeremiah Pela (35), reappeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (16/05) for bail application.

He appeared with his alleged accomplice, Takalani Mongalo (38), an employee at the Free State Department of Roads and Transport. They are facing fraud charges involving a multi-million rand security tender at the institution. They first appeared in court on Wednesday, 3 May.

Capt. S’fiso Nyakane, spokesperson of the Hawks, said officers of the Anti-Corruption Unit and Crime Intelligence received information that they demanded R1,2 million from a chief executive officer of the security company for a protection fee and to ensure that his security contract was not cancelled at the college.
