Two men, who were found guilty of raping their female friend during a night out in Botshabelo, were sentenced to life imprisonment. The Botshabelo Regional Court sentenced Teboho Mabusa (23) and Motlalepule Senyane (24) on 7 March for raping the victim at approximately 03:00 on 9 April 2017. Sgt Martin Xuma, spokesperson of the Botshabelo police cluster, said the victim had accompanied her two male friends to enjoy an evening out at a local tavern in Section F. The evening out ended horribly with her being raped afterwards. Xuma said the court heard that Mabusa pushed her to the ground and raped her whilst Senyane stood guard. “Senyane was regarded as an accomplice to the rape, even though he did not sexually assault the victim. He was convicted of rape.” He said a family living close to the scene of the rape was awakened by the victim’s screams for help and came to her rescue. Senyane and Mabusa ran away. “The police were alerted of the rape and both culprits were arrested on the same day.”Xuma said Senyane is currently on trial for another case of attempted robbery and the robbery of a 50-year-old woman, who he allegedly also tried to rape in Section W, Botshabelo. He said the woman was rescued by two men who were passing by.
