LESEDI GUYS (22) and Thabo Ruwana (19) were sentenced to two years imprisonment for robbery, one year for house-breaking and ten years for the murder of Isaac Molupe (56) in his home in No. 5 in Kimberley.

The sentences for robbery and house-breaking will run concurrently with the murder sentence.

According to a police statement from Lt. Sergio Kock, the event dates back to 1 December 2012 at approximately 05:20 when the three accosted the victim and robbed, assaulted and stabbed him after he found them ransacking his house.

It was further revealed that the suspects were arrested a few days after the incident and the police also recovered the television, radio and clothes they had stolen from the deceased.

“The accused remained in custody until the sentencing on 29 January in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court,” said Kock.

The Galeshewe cluster commander, Maj. Genl. Kolie Matthys, lauds the investigating officer, Detective WO Attie Browers of the Galeshewe Detective Unit, for a job well done.

“His effort ensured that no impunity was granted to the criminals of this heinous crime.

The police hope that the sentencing will serve as a deterrent to others who consider committing similar crimes.
