The Bloemfontein Regional Court has sentenced Letoane Raphoko (29) and Molefi Phohleli (23) to life for killing WO Andries Mokoloko (48).

The court sentenced the two men on 14 September after finding them guilty on three charges – murder, robbery and assault.

For murder they received life imprisonment, 15 years for robbery and six months for assault.

The investigation revealed that the accused assaulted and murdered Mokoloko by stabbing him with knives near the popular Mahugra Car Wash in Bloemfontein on 2 July last year.

Thereafter, they robbed the victim of two cellphones, money and also took his clothes.

Capt. S’fiso Nyakane, spokesperson of the Hawks, said the body of the officer was discovered on the roadside by a motorist who alerted the police of the incident.

He said Raphoko and Phohleli were arrested when the police found the deceased’s belongings, two cellphones and clothes in their possession.

Mokoloko was part of the Bloemfontein Public Order Police (POPS).
