A SENEKAL woman is facing a charge of neglect after her two minor daughters died in a fire incident on 31 July.

The tragic incident happened after the shack in Tambo Square, a developing settlement in the Senekal township of Matwabeng, caught fire.

The six-year-old girl died in the fire while the four-year-old died at the Dihlabeng Hospital where she had been treated for severe burn wounds.

Capt. Phumelelo Dhlamini, the police spokesperson, said the incident happened at about 07:30 while the mother of the deceased was absent.

He said the woman had reportedly gone to town to withdraw cash when the incident unfolded.

Dhlamini said the grief-stricken woman (27) was apparently preparing for a trip to Bethlehem with her church congregation.

He said the police had opened an inquest case into the tragic incident and would investigate the cause of the fire.
