The debut tour to South Africa by Carnegie Hall’s national youth jazz orchestra, NYO Jazz, has been postponed.

The new date has not yet been confirmed.

The postponement was announced on 3 April, citing the restrictions on global travel due to the coronavirus.

NYO Jazz, led by trumpeter Sean Jones and a special guest performance by vocalist Dianne Reeves, was due to perform at four venues in South Africa from 24 June to 7 July.

Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Makhanda in the Eastern Cape were the scheduled hosts.

The previously announced tour, scheduled to include performances, would have taken the ensemble to the four cities.“We were incredibly excited for NYO Jazz to make its debut in South Africa this summer,” said Clive Gillinson, executive and artistic director for Carnegie Hall.

“While it is very disappointing that the tour must be postponed due to the current circumstances, we know that our national youth ensemble will tour internationally again soon.

“We eagerly await the chance to perform for South African audiences and experience the country’s rich history and culture in a future year.”
