Violent killer gets 25 years

2017-11-22 06:01

The Thaba Nchu Regional Court has sentenced Shumako Zacharia Gaebeng (30) to 25 years imprisonment for murder, house breaking and attempted murder.

The court sentenced the accused on 1 November after finding him guilty on the charges of murder, attempted murder and house breaking with the intent to commit murder.

The court found Gaebeng guilty of murdering his lover Lesego Moreng (47) on 24 June this year, the attempted murder of neighbour Hilda Mokhuoane (32) and breaking into the latter’s home on the same day.

The accused stabbed his lover in the back at their residence in Zone 1, Thaba Nchu.

The brutal attack followed a domestic argument.

He received 15 years for the murder and ten years for attempting to murder Mokhuoane and breaking into her house.

Sgt. Martin Xuma, spokesperson of the police cluster, says the accused had attacked his neighbour Mokhuoane, stabbing her several times in the upper body. He says Gaebeng had broken down the door of Mokhuoane’s house to gain entry.

Xuma says Gaebeng had accused Mokhuoane of causing trouble between him and his late lover.

Mokhuoane was admitted to a local hospital where she was treated, while Moreng was found dead on the scene. Xuma says the accused was kept in police custody until his sentencing.

The sentences will run concurrently.
