Several dangerous weapons were found on learners when the police raided local schools on Thursday (17/05).

The mayor of the Ga-Segonyana Local Municipality, Neo Masegela, in partnership with the Department of Social Development, the police and concerned members of the community, visited the Rremogo High School, Gamohana Middle School and the KP Toto High School to implement a war against gangsterism campaign.

The campaign aims to combat the current challenge of gangsterism among young people in the Ga-Segonyana district.

This initiative has also been prioritised by the special programmes office of the mayor.

During the raid, learners were searched and weapons were discovered and confiscated by the police.

This campaign will also be implemented at other schools in the Ga-Segonyana municipal area.

“It is important to make the young people aware that crime and violence are not welcome in our societies,” Masegela said.

“Schools are supposed to offer an environment where the learners can be educated and develop their skills for a better future.”
